Pillows

The good thing about spoonflower contest themes I don't care for is the fact I get to do this stuff that was in my head for a long time. I wanted to design these pillows and think they came out funkky and fresh!

My hallway

I wanted something fun to hang coats in my new home so I decided to paint these stylish trees, it worked out perfect I think!

Bag strap

I was making a shopping bag for my mum yesterday and was dreading making straps. They never come out great, never everywhere the same size, never perfectly straight unless I spend so much time on them. They always make my bags a little less perfect. I starded thinking about ways to make them more perfect in a quick way, and I found it! And thought I let you in on my secrect ;-)

All you need is a metal ruler, you can't use plastic, CAN'T CAN'T CAN'T!!!!

I made a step by step tutorial for quick strap making. 
Like I said, you need a metal ruler, of some sort of strip that can stand heat. This ruler is about 3 cm wide and a perfect strap size I think. It's 50 cm long, works easier with this lenght but I guess you can use shorter ones.

First when you have cut your strap fabric fold it in half and iron flat. When you make a strap that measures 3 cm wide you will need to cut fabric that is about 9 cm wide.

Get you ruler or metal strip and place it inside the fabric, against the fold you ironed in.

Now fold the little piece of fabric over the ruler and iron again, holding the rular against that fold.
BE VERY CAREFULL, THE RULER GETS HOT HOT HOT. SO DON'T TOUCH RIGHT AFTER IRONING!!!!

Also iron the other side.

Now you can just pin the strap together and top strich it, it will be the perfect 3 cm the whole strap! I think top stiching should not be that little, I always set my machine on 2,75. I looks the most professional I think.

And there you go, perfect straps for mummy! She loved it, it's fabric of her hometown Schiedam ;-)

Me and my bikers

Riding a bike is unpractical, you get wet when it rains, can hardly bring any luggage, can't take your kid, have to wear a helmet, get overlooked by other road users, can get sooo cold..... BUT IT'S THE BEST THING EVER!!!!!

This design ended in the spoonflower top ten, can't wait to sew something for my little boy!

Een jaar geleden maakte ik voor Els en haar man een persoonlijk geboortekaartje http://kerskunst.blogspot.com/2011/05/geboortekaartje.html Ook maakte ik een persoonlijk labeldoekje voor deze kleine vent Kas, Els vond de stof zo leuk dat ze besloot een 12 meter lange slinger ermee te maken! Een feest om te zien dacht ik zo. Knap gedaan Els!  

A year ago I made a birth card for Els and her husband. http://kerskunst.blogspot.com/2011/05/geboortekaartje.html I also made a personal Labelcloth for the litle man Kas, Els loved the fabric and dicided to sew this 12 meter long flag line with it! So perfect, way to go Els!

I write, you wrote, we should all have written!

My best friend Patrick is a writer and I am so proud of him for it. We made one book together but we are going to make more in the future. Going to make something pretty for him with this design. He wares glasses so the animals are a tribute ;-)
